New Three-Minute "Mini-Novela" Series – 'Las Princesas' and Its Comedy Spinoff 'Off Script' - Air Today

via press release:

NBC Universal Owned Television Stations and Comcast's XFINITY today announced the debut of two new and first-of-their-kind series, the scripted “mini novela” Las Princesas and its semi-scripted comedy spinoff, Off Script. The promotional spots for the “mini-novela” and comedy series will air on select NBC and Telemundo markets today, Monday, February 8 and the full, three-minute episodes will be available on XFINITY.com/Latino and XFINITY On Demand.

Each series will offer bilingual and bicultural viewers compelling story lines while highlighting the strength and flexibility of XFINITY’s X1 platform. Viewers will be able to watch promotional spots for Las Princesas and Off Script on their local Telemundo and NBC stations during primetime beginning tonight.

"Las Princesas and Off Script provide viewers with a first-of-its kind bicultural entertainment experience that is relevant and appealing to Hispanic and general market consumers, as well as being more accessible to those who are visually impaired,” said Jeanne Schroeder, Vice President, Sales Marketing and Partnership Activation, NBCUniversal Skycastle, a division of NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations. “It’s been a privilege to partner with XFINITY on a project of this scope and we’re excited for all our viewers to experience these fun and engaging new original series.”

A modern Cinderella tale with a twist, Las Princesas tells the story of two young women whose dreams are at peril because they are stuck living in a cruel household ruled by a controlling matriarch, Señora Dolores Villanueva (Sonya Smith). Las Princesas features the romance, heroism, suspense and memorable characters that novela fans demand, while seamlessly integrating XFINITY X1 features into the storylines of the 20-episode “mini-novela” series. Viewers will be able to watch the promotional spots for Las Princesas on the local Telemundo stations located in the following markets: Miami (WSCV), Houston (KTMD), Chicago (WSNS), Washington, D.C. (WZDC), Atlanta (WKTB), West Palm Beach (WSCV-D4) and Fort Myers-Naples, Florida (WWDT).

“We want to connect and engage with Hispanic audiences, regardless of their language preference,” said Jose E. Velez Silva, Executive Director of Multicultural Marketing Communications at Comcast. “This campaign combines two beloved Hispanic genres – novelas and comedy – and seamlessly integrates products like XFINITY X1 to help tell the story."

Off Script, the English-language comedy spinoff of Las Princesas, provides viewers with a comedic, behind-the-scenes look at everything that happens when the novela cameras stop rolling. The 12 fast-paced, three-minute episodes of Off Script share the story of Emily Frankel (Manon Mathews), an anxiety-stricken English-language producer whose big break is overseeing the production of Las Princesas. With a gifted ensemble of improvisational actors, the series follows Emily’s bumpy ride to success and possible romance, while working in the drama-filled and flashy novela world. The NBC stations that will air the sneak peeks for Off Script are located in the Chicago (WMAQ), Washington, D.C. (WRC), Atlanta (WXIA), Houston (KPRC), Miami-Fort Lauderdale (WTVJ), West Palm Beach-Fort Pierce (WPTV) and Fort Myers-Naples, Florida (WBBH) markets.

Filmed in Miami, Florida, both series were produced with Video Description to make the programs accessible for individuals who are visually impaired. The story line for Las Princesas also incorporates a local not-for-profit organization, Miami Lighthouse for the Blind, into the story line to highlight X1’s “Accessible TV” feature. The cast for Las Princesas features Telemundo’s Ricardo Chavez, Gabriel Coronel, Litzy, Sonya Smith and Carmen Villalobos. They are joined by newcomers Aisha Duran and Jessy Leros. The complimentary English-language comedy spinoff series, Off Script, features Vine star Manon Mathews, rising comic Erik Rivera and includes select appearances by cast members from Las Princesas.
