Denise Vasi Covers Rolling Out Magazine (Press Release)

Denise Vasi is truly happy.

The actress and model who broke through to mainstream television audiences on the long-running soap ALL MY CHILDREN is returning as one of the principal stars on VH1's SINGLE LADIES — but this lady is no longer single.
As the show gears up for its third season, Vasi is adjusting to her latest and greatest role: newlywed.

“I never really thought about marriage that much,” Vasi tells entertainment editor Todd Williams. “Marriage just wasn’t my thing. I wasn’t the little girl who grew up thinking about the big wedding day. Then you meet somebody and all of that kind of changes.”

Vasi is also excited to be a part of what seems to be a slight shift in television. With shows like LADIES and ABC's smash hit SCANDAL, black women appear to be more of a target demographic for networks. And
Vasi is paying attention.

“It’s really a whole new ballgame now.”

2013 Daytime Soap Opera MVPs: Eileen Davidson, Finola Hughes, Katherine Kelly Lang and Billy Miller

Who were the most valuable players in daytime drama over the course of 2013? Find out below in the Serial Scoop year-end awards.

DAYS OF OUR LIVES MVP: Eileen Davidson as Kristen DiMera
By the end of 2013, DAYS had become daytime's hottest show. It got there with tight storytelling and a lot of help from Eileen Davidson, who turned in one fascinating performance after another as Kristen. It led up to the character drugging and raping Father Eric Brady (Greg Vaughan, also very good this year). From there it was all about Kristen's upcoming wedding to Brady Black (Eric Martsolf), a wedding that was ruined thanks to Victor Kiriakis (an inspired John Aniston) with an assist from Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall). Davidson's performances during the wedding week were perhaps her best ever, and the ratings bump proved that viewers agreed. DAYS was back, and Davidson was on top of her game.

Idina Menzel Named National Ambassador of "Kids' Night on Broadway"

The Broadway League announced that IDINA MENZEL from Broadway's new musical If/Then will serve as the 2014 KIDS' NIGHT ON BROADWAY National Ambassador. The 18th KIDS' NIGHT ON BROADWAY will take place Monday, February 24, 2014 to Sunday, March 2, 2014.

"When I first went to Broadway, it was a life-changing experience. There's something magical about walking through the theatre district and seeing the marquees and the lights. Nothing compares to a live Broadway performance! As an adult, I still have that nostalgic feeling I had as a child. It's important that kids come to theatre because they get to see life through different characters. The arts are so important in general," said Idina Menzel, "and I'm so grateful that my career awards me with so many special opportunities to connect with young people. I'm honored to be the Kids' Night on Broadway National Ambassador and extra thrilled that this year's cause-related component is our arts-centered foundation, A Broader Way, which enables expression, empowerment, and enlightenment. As does Broadway."

First Thoughts on Guy Wilson as the New Will Horton on DAYS OF OUR LIVES

Guy Wilson debuted as the new Will Horton on DAYS OF OUR
LIVES on Wednesday, January 8, 2014.
"You're not gonna believe this!"

That was actor Guy Wilson's first line in his debut as the new Will Horton on DAYS OF OUR LIVES. Well, believe it!

Over the years many relative unknown thespians, who later turned out to be excellent actors, even Emmy winners, made their daytime soap opera debuts and looked like stiffs. This is a different medium, with a lot of dialogue to memorize, where getting it right on the first take is desired. It's understandable if a new actor in a daytime drama takes not just one, but several episodes to settle in. It's happened time and again so I give them a pass. Luckily, Wilson doesn't need one. He performed like a seasoned pro on Day One.
