It's Official! IFC Changes Its Name To... IFC

Today at the Television Critics Association, IFC's President and General Manager, Jennifer Caserta, announced that the TV home of PORTLANDIA, MARON, COMEDY BANG! and other “slightly off” comedies has changed its name from IFC to IFC.

While the network has gone by the name IFC for several years now, it has become a destination for smart and unique alternative comedies. Some have occasionally continued to refer to it by the name that persisted on a piece of paper in the basement of its home office, the Independent Film Channel, but that document no longer exists.

“The name 'Independent Film Channel' has been legally retired and IFC as an acronym now stands for nothing,” Caserta said. “Well, it actually stands for a growing number of smart, funny and original alternative comedies, but our viewers already know that. So, starting today, IFC is legally IFC.”

On the heels of its best year ever, with double-digit viewership gains, IFC debuts its newest original comedy TONIGHT. THE SPOILS OF BABYLON is a momentous and sweeping tale of forbidden love, betrayal, corruption and bloodshed. The gripping six-part saga features Jessica Alba, Will Ferrell, Jellybean Howie, Val Kilmer, Tobey Maguire, Haley Joel Osment, Tim Robbins, Michael Sheen, Steve Tom and Kristen Wiig with a cameo by David Spade and Molly Shannon and Carey Mulligan voicing a mannequin. The Spoils of Babylon premieres with two back-to-back half-hour episodes tonight at 10 p.m. ET/PT only on IFC.
