Justin Gocke Dead at 36

Former child actor Justin Gocke died on September 8. He was 36.

Justin Earle Gocke was born on January 31, 1978 in Los Angeles, California.

He started in the entertainment business at age 6, landing the first job he auditioned for, The Burning Bed movie starring Farrah Fawcett. He continued to work until age 14, ending his acting career shortly after he started high school.

His credits included the role of Brandon Capwell in NBC daytime soap opera Santa Barbara, for which he won a Daytime Emmy Award in 1989. "It was such a fun and memorable day," Gocke recalled in a 2009 interview. He was nominated again in 1991.

Gocke shared his most memorable Santa Barbara scenes with Robin Mattson (Gina) and Justin Deas (Keith). "We were like family, on and off screen," Gocke said.

Breakups, breakdowns and scandals fill the halls of Degrassi Community School in season 14 of TeenNick's award-winning hit series Degrassi premiering Tuesday, October 28, at 9 p.m. (ET). In the new season, the students of Degrassi are in recovery mode after last season's super storm hit the city. Four new cast members will get a fresh start while familiar faces tackle complicated challenges at home and at school. This season addresses many issues that are relevant and relatable to today's teens including depression, social media, teen pregnancy and relationships. ABC Family has picked up its first procedural drama, Stitchers, to series and has ordered a second season of comedy series Young & Hungry.

"Stitchers is new ground for us and I'm excited to bring procedurals to the network," said Tom Ascheim, President, ABC Family. "We think our fans will love the intricate mysteries that Stitchers will solve week to week as much as they love our relationship-driven dramas. We are also going back for seconds of our new comedy, Young & Hungry. Good food, good laughs - of course we want more."

Naomi Campbell To Recur In FOX Drama 'Empire'

Actress, supermodel and producer Naomi Campbell will be featured as a recurring guest star on FOX's sexy and powerful new family drama, Empire. Campbell will play Camilla, an alluring woman involved in a steamy affair with the much-younger potential heir to his father's throne, Hakeem (newcomer Bryshere Gray), over whom she exercises considerable influence. Empire will debut in early 2015 on FOX.

"Naomi is a beautiful actress. Underrated in my mind," said co-creator and executive producer Lee Daniels (Lee Daniels' The Butler, Precious). "She will be wonderful as Camilla. I am truly thrilled to have one of my close friends join us."

'Mistresses' Renewed For Third Season By ABC

ABC has renewed summer series Mistresses for a third season.

The show, from co-showrunners K.J. Steinberg and Rina Mimoun, is a remake of the British series of the same name, which aired only six episodes.

Mistresses, starring Alyssa Milano, Rochelle Aytes and Yunjin Kim, will return for another round of 13 episodes after drawing 3.7 million total viewers from June to September.

Sam Hall Dead at 93

Writer Sam Hall died on Friday at age 93.
Former Dark Shadows and One Life to Live writer Sam Hall died on Friday, September 26. He was 93.

Allison Samuel Hall was born on March 11, 1921, in Carrollton, Ohio, and graduated from Dartmouth and Yale. A veteran of the World War II Battle of the Bulge, "Sam" was married to actress Grayson Hall in 1952.

Sam was a playwright who had spent several years working on the CBS daytime drama The Brighter Day. He was not really interested in accepting another TV job but the family had been struggling for a while, and Sam was considering moving back to Ohio to work at his father’s rubber gloves factory. Then Grayson got a short-term acting role on ABC's afternoon soap opera Dark Shadows, which turned into a long-term gig, and that kept them in New York. So when creator Dan Curtis said he needed a new writer to replace Malcolm Marmorstein, Sam said he would give it a try. The series became a cult classic and won the devotion of a loyal fanbase that would continue to follow the characters in novels, comic books, movies, audio stories, a primetime television revival and more. Dark Shadows featured the traditional themes of love and family during its five-year run (1966-1971), but mixed in were werewolves, zombies, man-made monsters, witches, warlocks, time travel, and even a parallel universe.

Lifetime Renews 'Devious Maids' For Third Season, With Many Questions Left to Answer

TNT Orders 'Lumen' Pilot, Joe Johnston to Direct

How to Get Away with Murder was the night's most-watched show overall.

In fact, with How to Get Away with Murder and Black-ish, ABC has now delivered the season’s Top 2 new TV shows in Adults 18-49, qualifying as the two highest rated debuts on any net since ABC’s Resurrection opened in March – since 3/9/14. overall.

In viewers and young adults, ABC marked its strongest Thursday night in 5 years – since 9/24/09.

Susan Banks Returns to 'Days of our Lives'

Emmy-winning actress Eileen Davidson won rave reviews for her portrayal of multiple characters on NBC soap opera Days of our Lives from 1996 to 1998. One of those characters, Susan Banks, returns on the Friday, September 26 episode. Susan is the mother of Elvis "EJ" DiMera, and looks very much like Kristen DiMera.

Joe LaDue Dead at 70

Actor Joseph "Smokey Joe" LaDue died on May 26. He was 70.

LaDue starred as Derek Thurston on CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless from 1977-1980. In 1983, he briefly appeared in NBC daytime drama Days of our Lives as Detective Harry Frost.

LaDue's other credits include Emergency!, The Rookies, Starsky and Hutch, Casino, Luckytown and Ocean's Eleven.

In recent years, LaDue had suffered from Alzheimer's disease.

Services were held on Sunday, July 29 at the Foursquare Church in Blue Diamond, Nevada.

'The View' Season 18 Premiere Week Hits Three-Year Ratings High

New season of The View is off to a solid start.
Welcome back, Rosie O'Donnell! The 18th season premiere of The View attracted its largest audience in three years and improved by double digits over last year's Premier Week.

The View achieved 3-year highs in Total Viewers (3.4 million – since 2011) and it was the most-watched week in 18-weeks in total viewers, women 18-49 (531,000/0.8 rating) and Women 25-54 (707,000/1.2 rating) since the week of 5/12/14.

Monday's season 18 debut was the series’ most-watched season debut in 8 years in Total Viewers (3.9 million) and hit 3-year highs in Women 18-49 (665,000/1.0 rating) and Women 25-54 (892,000/1.5 rating) – since 2006 and 2011.

Are Rosie O'Donnell, Whoopie Goldberg, and new cast members Rosie Perez and Nicole Wallace the new "Dream Team?" Time will tell!

Ovation Awards Nominees Include Kirsten Vangsness, Blythe Danner, Leon Russom & Chris L. McKenna

Nominees for the 2014 LA STAGE Alliance Ovation Awards were announced earlier this week at Native Voices at the Autry National Center in Los Angeles. The nominations were revealed by past Ovation Award recipients Gigi Bermingham, Brighid Fleming, Parmer Fuller, Jennifer Haley, Brian Kite, Glynn Turman, and John Zalewski, along with LA STAGE Alliance Chief Executive Officer Terence McFarland.

Theatre @ Boston Court received the most nominations (19), followed by the Geffen Playhouse and La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts with 17 each, Center Theatre Group and 3-D Theatricals with 13 each, and the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts (12).

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Billy Flynn on 'Days of our Lives' and Taking on the Role of Bad Boy Chad DiMera

Actor Billy Flynn has taken Days of our Lives by storm since he joined the NBC daytime drama as the new Chad DiMera earlier this month. In his first three weeks, Flynn has held his own with some of Days' biggest stars--Alison Sweeney (Samantha DiMera), James Scott (EJ DiMera), Lauren Koslow (Kate Roberts) and Eileen Davidson (Kristin DiMera). Sparks have also flown between his character and Abigail Deveraux (Kate Mansi), which does not seem to bode well for Abby's blossoming romance with Ben Rogers (Robert Scott Wilson). Chad may want revenge for sins of the past but love is still in the air.

Serial Scoop spoke with Flynn this week, and the talented newcomer discussed his sex symbol status, and what it was like to come on board as the new face of Days' DiMera family. He also shared his thoughts on Chad's love life, and told us why Abigail Deveraux, and not Melanie Jonas (Molly Burnett), was the love of Chad's life. CBS Daytime Finishes Broadcast Season as #1 Network for 28th Year in a Row

The 2013-2014 television season officially ended last week and CBS Daytime finished at #1 for the 28th consecutive year. Let's Make a Deal and The Talk rose to their largest audiences ever, while The Price is Right, The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless delivered their largest viewer totals in years.

Below is a breakdown of the CBS Daytime programs:

* Let's Make a Deal 1 averaged 2.93 million viewers and Let's Make a Deal 2 averaged 3.39m viewers, both up +9% from a year ago to series bests.
* The Price is Right 1 averaged 4.83m viewers, increasing +8% and delivering its largest audience since 2004-2005. Meanwhile, The Price is Right 2, daytime's #1 program, averaged 5.60m viewers, was up +5%, marking its largest audience since 2006-2007.
* The Talk delivered its largest-ever audience with 2.67 million viewers, up +10% from last year.
* The Bold and the Beautiful averaged 3.84m, up +7%, scoring the daytime drama's largest audience since the 2006-2007 year.
* The Young and the Restless delivered 5.10m, a +5% jump from a year ago, delivering its largest audience since the 2009-2010 year.

Syfy Renews 'Defiance' and 'Dominion'

Syfy today announced a third season for its original series Defiance, giving a 13-episode order to the action packed drama, and a second season for the epic supernatural thriller Dominion, which will also consist of 13 episodes. Both series are produced by Universal Cable Productions and are slated to return with all-new episodes in 2015.

Kevin Murphy (Desperate Housewives, Caprica, Hellcats) will resume his role as executive producer and showrunner of Defiance while Vaun Wilmott (Sons of Anarchy) will continue to fill the same posts for Dominion.

'Parenthood' Season 6 Premieres Tonight with Last Minute Construction and a Trip to Vegas

'The Bold and the Beautiful' Releases Details of Amsterdam Location Shoot, Ferry Doedens to Guest Star

CBS' Emmy-Award winning daytime soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful will film a romantic story on the canals of Amsterdam the first week of October, the series announced today.

"While in the Netherlands for a Forrester Creations photo shoot, one couple finds love while another is falling apart,” said executive producer and head writer, Bradley Bell. "The action takes place over seven episodes, and we are very excited about showcasing the beauty of Amsterdam during our shoot."

Cast members Ashleigh Brewer (Ivy Forrester), Darin Brooks (Wyatt Spencer), Scott Clifton (Liam Spencer) and Kim Matula (Hope Logan Spencer) will take part.

'Queen of the South' Pilot Picked Up By USA Network, Based on 'La Reina Del Sur'

USA Network has announced the pilot pick-up of the drama series Queen of the South, from Fox Television Studios, to be executive produced by M.A. Fortin and Joshua John Miller (The Final Girls), along with David Friendly (Little Miss Sunshine, Big Mommas House) and Pancho Mansfield (Damien). The pilot is written by Fortin and Miller. Based on the literary page-turner "La Reina Del Sur," the top-selling novel by the internationally acclaimed author Arturo Pérez-Reverte also yielded a Telemundo series that became one of the most popular telenovelas of all time for USA’s sister network.

'El Señor de los Cielos' Season Finale Watched by 3.2M Viewers

The second season of Telemundo's highly rated super series El Señor de los Cielos ended on a season high, averaging 3,186,000 total viewers and 1,956,000 adults 18 to 49 in its finale night, according to Nielsen. Starring Rafael Amaya as Aurelio Casillas, the finale ranked as the #1 in Spanish language broadcast network program in its time slot, outperforming its closest competitor by 78% among adults 18 to 49. In addition, the original series outperformed its closest competitor during the last four weeks, among adults 18 to 49 garnering a 49% share of Spanish-language broadcast television. El Señor de los Cielos exemplifies Telemundo's innovative super series concept -- returning scripted drama series that are edgier, action packed and faster pace than traditional novelas.

'Hunters' Drama Receives Greenlight from Syfy, Story Based on Whitley Strieber Novel 'Alien Hunter'

Syfy today announced it is greenlighting a new 13-episode scripted series, Hunters (working title), about an alien terrorist network on Earth, from executive producers Gale Anne Hurd (The Walking Dead, The Terminator Trilogy) and Natalie Chaidez (12 Monkeys, Heroes), who will also be the writer.

Universal Cable Productions will serve as the studio with Valhalla Entertainment as the production company. Hunters is scheduled to premiere on Syfy in 2016.
