'Days of our Lives' 2017 Preview

2016 ended on Days of our Lives, with Paul (Christopher Sean) and Sonny (Freddie Smith) and Chad (Billy Flynn) and Abigail (Marci Miller) sharing a kiss. What can we expect on DAYS in 2017? Romance, return of beloved characters, and a long-awaited wedding are on the horizon.

* Marlena (Deidre Hall), Steve (Stephen Nichols), Rafe (Galen Gering), and Paul fight to get Hope released from prison, and go to Prauge to get proof that Stefano is alive. Sonny and Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) follow, and while there, romance blooms for 'PaulSon' and 'Stayla'.

* Hope escapes from prison after she finds herself the victim of a violent situation. Who will come to her rescue?

* Chad finds himself torn between Gabi (Camila Banus) and Abby (Marci Miller). Can Chad and Abby reclaim the life they once shared?

* Nicole (Ari Zucker) and Deimos (Vincent Irizary) become engaged, but an unexpected revelation shakes up the new couple.

* Leann Hunley returns as Anna on January 9, and Christie Clark and Austin Peck return as Carrie and Austin on January 11, when these three popular characters become involved in the Prauge adventure.

* Greg Vaughan makes his triumphant return as Eric Brady on January 17, and finds himself coming to the aid of an unexpected person.


* Martha Madison makes a brief return as Belle Brady, and reunites with Shawn (Brandon Beemer), before the couple leave Salem again.

* Gabrielle Haugh replaces Paige Searcy as Jade on that same day,  as Jade and Joey (James Lastovic) continue to struggle with the loss of their unborn child.

* Lamon Archey joins the cast as Eli Grant, Valerie's (Vanessa Williams) son. Eli will soon be revealed to be Julie's (Susan Seaforth Hayes) grandson, and will cross paths with Gabi Hernandez (Camila Banus). What will Julie think of that?

* Shelley Hennig reprises her role of Steve and Kayla's daughter Stephanie Johnson, for their valentine's day wedding.

* Lucas Adams joins the cast as Tripp, the son of Steve and the late Ava (Tamara Braun). Will he discover that his half-brother Joey murdered his mother?

* Robb Derringer joins the cast as Scooter Nelson, a professor with a sex addiction on March 30.

* Soon after, Scott Shilstone arrives as Wyatt, a young man who may create problems for the younger set in Salem.

Former child actor Justin Gocke died on September 8. He was 36. Justin Earle Gocke was born on January 31, 1978 in Los Angeles, California. Justin Gocke and Farrah Fawcett in The Burning Bed . He started in the entertainment business at age 6, landing the first job he auditioned for, The Burning Bed movie starring Farrah Fawcett. He continued to work until age 14, ending his acting career shortly after he started high school. His credits included the role of Brandon Capwell in NBC daytime soap opera Santa Barbara , for which he won a Daytime Emmy Award in 1989. "It was such a fun and memorable day," Gocke recalled in a 2009 interview. He was nominated again in 1991. Gocke shared his most memorable Santa Barbara scenes with Robin Mattson (Gina) and Justin Deas (Keith). "We were like family, on and off screen," Gocke said.
