This is what Dylan wrote on his My Space:

Quote:

Dr. Chris has left the building

I just wanted to thank all of the loyal and wonderful Chris Hughes fans. I recently filmed my last day on As the World Turns and cant stress enough how much I appreciate all of the support and kind words from the best fans in daytime.
Working on As the World Turns was a truly wonderful experience that I will cherish and fondly remember forever. The cast and crew are amazing and I will greatly miss each and everyone of them.
From the bottom of my heart, thanks again for the support and for being a fan.

Sincerely,

Dylan Bruce

That's too bad. :cry I was just starting to really like Dylan as Chris and he's a valuable character, since he has so ties to a core family and to many characters. I'd rather they find him a storyline than keep on bringing on these characters that have no history or ties to anyone.

I think as the son of Kim and Bob, Chris is important to the canvas. I liked Dylan in the role. Any problems I had were because of the writing but I thought Dylan had really grown into the role.

The SOW editor made it sounds as if it might be possible he would return down the road when they decide to bring back Chris although she suggested people write letters. She said he was gone "for now."

I would have dropped Aaron instead of Chris.

Roger did Dylan say anything yesterday about this being permanent or just for now?

There is no such thing as contract-to-recurring on this show.

I believe when they drop some people from contract, instead of saying they've been fired, they just say recurring, but that doesn't mean they're going to be seen again. I think the only person who went from contract to recurring to contract again was Tamara Tunie (and then to off-contract once again.)

Anyone else?

Were Marie Masters and Kathleen Widdoes on contract in the past? They're both recurring now.

Cady McClain went from recurring to contract to recurring, I think.

You're right about Cady.

I know Marie was on contract in the past and then went to recurring. I think Kathleen at one point too was on contract.

They had asked Larry Brygmann to go recurring and he walked. Ben Hendrickson did the same thing but returned a year later.

There was an article in I think SOD a while back that it is becoming more common for some contract actors to be dropped to recurring as a way to save on teh budget.

Me too, Bill. I think Dylan has really grown in the role.

If Chris is gone, I hope we see Dylan elsewhere on TV soon.

Cady McClain went from recurring to contract to recurring, I think.

I know Marie was on contract, then was one of the writers for several years and made her first re-appearance on the show again at Andy Dixon's memorial (where he was wheeled in on a wheelchair - Would love to find a clip of those scenes.) Then when they SORASed Allison, they brought her back to the show as recurring, who even had a nice meaty storyline with Dr. Decker a while back. That was nice of them.

I loved Chris too, I think two of my favorite actors who have played Chris Hughes have been: Dyan Bruce and Bailey Chase. CG and the rest of the powers that be are getting rid of popular actors and characters and that just WRONG!!! I can't wait to see where Dyan Bruce goes and does next. As good looking and talented as he is, it won't be long before we see him on some other show. :cry :cry :cry

I wish they would have gotten rid of Paul instead, too :cuss

I have to agree with Judy on this. The character of Chris, being a Hughes, is important to this canvas. I am not sure I have seen good writing for the character in a very long time, if ever, but I do think he could be an integral figure. I also agree that Aaron would be the more expendable one of the two. He is such an overbearing bore of a character.

I am beyond tired of Ali with her two men so having an end to that story line won't break my heart. I am not liking Dani either. Adding Dani to the show seems to be another wasted return of a character that many probably never even missed in the first place.

Now if they could only bring back Dr. Ben or Dr. Dixon.

I believe Tamara and Cady never really wanted to be on contract. Tamara, because she has so many other projects going and Cady, because she likes to be free to do what she wants. I could be wrong, but I don't think either of them, in recent years, signed anything over a one year contract, did they?
