Dusty rose from the dead last week on AS THE WORLD TURNS and no one is happier about his return than his portrayer, GRAYSON MCCOUCH. CBS.com caught up with Grayson on his first day back on set to find out about his brief Daytime hiatus and Dusty's return, and was surprised when KELLEY MENIGHAN HENSLEY (Emily) hopped in to help him out on some hard-hitting questions.

CBS.com: Tell me about Dusty's return.
GRAYSON MCCOUCH: He [returned] on September 24th and in a cage!

CBS.com: Which is kind of funny.
GRAYSON MCCOUCH: [Laughs] Yea, I usually return in a cage. It should be very compelling. I look forward to it. James Stenbeck is involved, I have no idea, he's a new entity in my world and I am so excited to be working with him. And I am so excited to be working with the whole cast.

CBS.com: Will your "death" be explained?
GRAYSON MCCOUCH: Yes, it will be worked out. I had a great designer drug that I was willing to...
[Kelley Menighan Hensley interjects]
KELLEY MENIGHAN HENSLEY: ...experiments with...
GRAYSON MCCOUCH: It worked well; it stopped my heart the way it was supposed to. [It] put me in a coma[tose] state and then I took another antidote to wake me.

CBS.com: You took it
GRAYSON MCCOUCH: Yes. I took it willingly. I was a step ahead of the guy who was trying to kill me. I willingly put myself through rigamorties. That's deep sh--. [Laughs]
KELLEY MENIGHAN HENSLEY: But who gave you the antidote since you were "dead"?
GRAYSON MCCOUCH: Hmmmm...whomever I was in with. It was my drug dealer; it was whomever I was working with.
KELLEY MENIGHAN HENSLEY:I think it was the coroner.
GRAYSON MCCOUCH: I don't know who I was in cahoots with. But, I can reveal I'm protecting somebody. Oooohhhhh.

CBS.com: Now how will Oakdale react about your return?
GRAYSON MCCOUCH: They are going to be up in arms. This isn't something I pull off everyday. The character of Paul came back like five times. This is a first for Dusty. People really think he checked out. So this is exciting.

CBS.com: Is Dusty looking forward to reconnecting with anyone specifically?

GRAYSON MCCOUCH: Definitely Emily.
KELLEY MENIGHAN HENSLEY:Does that have anything to do with me sitting here?
GRAYSON MCCOUCH: No. [Laughs] All the ladies, I've been in a cage for a long time. I have a special fondness for Emily, Lily--we left things unresolved. I turned on my TV to check the new Lily out. She looks good. [Laughs] She's classy; I like that. It should be fun.

CBS.com: How does it feel to be part of that soap opera cliche of "Back from the Dead"?
GRAYSON MCCOUCH: It's great. Resurrection is always great. I get to come back. I had relationships with a lot of women in Oakdale when Meg returned to town, we were flirting with disaster and then she moved on to Paul. Emily, Ali, Jennifer. Relationships really don't work out for Dusty. Then the fruit of the one real relationship is gone, that's Dusty's kid, Johnny. So I've been out searching for him, so that's the whole dynamic. Resurrection is always good when you come back bigger and better and you're back for redemption.
KELLEY MENIGHAN HENSLEY:You have an agenda.
GRAYSON MCCOUCH: Yes. Thanks Kelley.

CBS.com: Did you want to return to ATWT; how did this comeback occur?
GRAYSON MCCOUCH: I was in the garden at my house, thinking about all the weeds and someone came and got me and said [Executive Producer] Chris Goutman is on the phone. He said he wanted to know if I was interested in coming back to the show. To which my response was, "of course." Eight months of not acting, I was ready to get back in the saddle. I owe a lot to Nick [Chris Goutman's son], his friendship, we kept in contact. Nick was one of the guys when things weren't working my way, telling me everything is going to be alright. I have friends like him, and his father, that they would always take care of me and they gave me a lot of support in a time when I was trying to take things by storm. Life is winning or losing so, I lost for about eight months personally. It was so much. I was in Los Angeles when Nick called, I had a harrying experience with my dog and I hustled him back home to New York where evidentially I was meant to be and the rest was going to Italy with my mom, returning to my home upstate, laying low, chopping wood in my garden and getting a call from my boss, who I chose to work for over any other boss.

CBS.com: Since the announcement of your return have you heard any of the fan response?
GRAYSON MCCOUCH: Apparently they are happy. I'm happy too. It's a great show; there are not a lot of great things out there and to be able to come to work and act is everything I've ever wanted out of life. I'm totally content. Feel really lucky to be back.

CBS.com: Is today your first official day back?
GRAYSON MCCOUCH: First day. It's great. It's relaxing today because I'm not really thinking about work more about seeing everyone. Oh yes, I am really interesting in connecting with everyone again.

CBS.com: While you were gone did you watch the show at all?
GRAYSON MCCOUCH: Not really. I checked out the new Lily, because I wanted to see what she looked like.
KELLEY MENIGHAN HENSLEY: Yes, the important things in life.

CBS.com: What are you most looking forward to now that you are back?
GRAYSON MCCOUCH: Working with the people. Seeing everyone everyday. Getting to put my talents to use.

Hmmm, I wonder who it was who came and got him when he was in his garden, to tell him about the phonecall from the show. :hmm

Interesting about the Goutman son connection... :hmm And sounds like there's quite the relationship with Goutman...

:lol about his comments about nuLily...

Wonder who he's protecting... :huh as Dusty, I mean.... that could be an interesting thing... you'd think it might be somebody we saw close to his "body" right after he "died" but those people that we know about seemed genuinely shocked by his "death"... so of course there could be a mystery person, OR they could rewrite history. :shutup

I didn't like that Kelly H was butting into the interview. :cuss

I'm sure the interview was set up so that would exactly happen like that. I just didn't like it since I don't want Emily/Dusty. I'm happy with Emily/Casey.

Let Dusty be with someone else, like Bonnie or Dani.

KMH has said that Grayson is "her guy" so id doesn't surprise me that she popped in. I know she wants Emily/Dusty back but I would love him not to get stuck with her.

I love that he referred to his relationship with Jennifer as Dusty's only "real" relationship and didn't even mention Lucy :devil

I knew he had a good relationship with Goutman but didn't realize that he and his son were friends.

My guess is if anyone on the cast had anything to do with his "death" it is Lucinda although based on her reaction that would be a rewrite. It is possible they make it no regular cast member too.

LOL about the Lily comments.

Perhaps it was a girlfriend that came out to get him?

I enjoyed the interview :2thumbs

Okay...Okay...I admit it! I did go out and tell Grayson about Chris Goutman's call. After 8 months of having him with me, I was bored and needed him to get out of my hair for a while :lol

Thanks for the interview. I wonder if it could be Babs that he's protecting, since he was in search of her grandson, Johnny. :hmm

I didn't think it was Babs until today's show. If he isn't protecting Babs it was a very poorly written scene. Babs wasn't surprised he was alive but rather wondered if James shot him :hmm That makes me think she was in on it and it would make more sense than Lucinda considering the reaction that Lucinda had to his death.

I'm in the process of watching today's show right now, so I guess I'll see what Babs says. Things seem to be moving pretty quickly.

Seriously... I keep waiting for this guy to show up on the big screen and finally be recognized for the talent (and good looks and the voice and.....) he has.

I did get a nice *sigh* mental image of him hanging out in a garden and chopping wood, though. :2thumbs Very nice!
