I came across this rumour where they're saying that in order to get Carly off the show for her real-life pregnancy, they're going to a) turn her into an alcoholic and send her to rehab or b) turn her into an alcoholic who ends up driving drunk and killing a child, maybe one of her own. They've even mentioned it might be JJ. Anyone know anything about this??? I'll withhold my opinion (although that's pretty difficult) until I hear what you all think/know. |

No, I haven't heard that rumor although there is a lot of foreshadowing about Carly and drinking lately. I would think it would serve a purpose of getting Carly out of town by sending her to rehab. However, I would be very unhappy if a death of a child is involved!

The show is already on my 'eh - maybe/maybe not' list of things do watch... if Carly is responsible, intentionally or not, in the death of any child then I'm 100% done with the show.  I can see the alcoholism foreshadowing but think, like when she took off with Simon, that it's an extremely  storyline.Have her go visit Rosanna and then Gwen or something - if Emma can leave for months at a time to visit her kids, why can't Carly take a break and visit her sisters? The kids are in good hands with Jack and Janet, right? |

Knowing her drinking is gong to continue, it's not a stretch at all to think that she will wind up going to rehab. Heck even one of the recent soap mags said that. It could actually be a good story if done right but unfortunately I don't think we have the writers to do it justice. And yes I have heard the rumor that she eventually is driving drunk and has an accident and kills a child, most likely JJ. If they to that way, I'll be furious. There is no need to destroy Carly's character like that and I do firmly believe it is character destruction. And with Jack's family history of his mother driving drunk and killing his father, I hardly think he would ever forgive her. I do believe CarJack is end game so I can't imagine them thinking they could get past this. And knowing Maura hated her exit story with leaving the kids, I can't imagine she would be happy with this at all. Nobody seems to know the original source of this rumor so I tend to think it is somebody's imagination getting carried away. I don't believe it. Now a new rumor is popping up that Parker will become addicted to alcohol with it being available thanks to Craig and Carly. Then he will get a hold of Carly's car keys and he will run down Carly, putting her in a coma for her maternity leave. I also have a hard time believing that especially since we saw the other day how Carly wanted the alcohol out of the house. The only thing would be if she starts keeping it around because she is drinking. While I think they could do many better things, I do think she will wind up going to rehab for her maternity leave but I don't think it will be because she hurt or killed anyone. I also don't think that has to do any damage to her character. |

Whoa! This is the first I'm hearing about Maura having another baby. How far along is she? Just when I was really getting into her story with Craig. I guess I'm really out of the loop, but congrats to Scott & Maura!

As for all these rumors out there regarding Carly's exit from Oakdale it's safe to say that she will not go gently into the night. Whatever is coming Carly's way it's not going to be pretty. The consequences of Carly's drinking has to come to some kind of tragedy in order for her to go into rehab. J&C have always had alcohol & beer in their homes & when they went out to eat or dined at other homes. Each of them have had their moments when they got smashed. I'm not saying that one cannot become an alcoholic at the age of 40 if some great tragedy or depression kicks in. I just find this whole storyline convenience. The sad part is that these rumors are more interesting & entertaining than the show. |

We've already seen signs that tptb are covering up Maura's pregnancy. On Friday they had Carly wearing a black coat for the entire show. Plus t hey've had a lot of shots of her sitting and holding things in front. Guess if she's due in June her last scenes before leave will be taped in April and airing in June.

We don't know when in June she is due so her last scenes will be taped either May or June. She usually leaves about 2 weeks before the baby is due. She left earlier the last time since the studio went dark for the Christmas holidays. It was said she could have come back for a couple of weeks but it made more sense to just write her out then since Paul Leyden was done at the Christmas break. So she'll probably air into July or August depending on when in June she is due. While it certainly seems her exit will be alcohol related, at the pace stories move today, it seems odd to think this one will last that long. |

I am happy for Maura & Scott, but I am also sad for the show. I like the direction Carly is finally going in as a business woman & mom. It takes such a long time to redeem her character after she comes back. I feel like she's just getting back to where she should be after her last leave and that awful storyline with Holden. Too bad that she couldn't pre-tape enough shows to keep some of this storyline alive while she is on maternity leave. Long business trips.... something else instead of another story where she has to redeem herself again. It's getting as tired as another"Lily gets kidnapped again"story. JMO

I agree. I don't know why they just can't backburner Carly for awhile, and also pre-tape enough stuff so that Maura's absence isn't really that noticeable. They do it with other characters, so why not Carly?

I'd actually prefer that. Look at Holden. We've barely seen him in weeks, yet they mentioned him once in awhile. Every time Maura goes on maternity leave, the storyline that TPTB write to facilitate that just seems to damage the character more and more and it takes so long to redeem her. I feel like she's just finally recovering from the last maternity leave. |

Let's face it Maura's maternity leaves have wreaked havoc on the character of Carly & in turn her relationship with Jack. We will never know what TPTB would have written for J&C. had Maura not gone out 3 times. We just know that Carly does not go gently into the night. That will never happen. I have great admiration & respect for MW I wish the same could be said for TPTB & their brutal writing for Carly. |

Since this is happening right over the summer, I think Carly and her kids should go on an off-screen summer vacation with her kids. A "2 week" in Oakdale time vacation could be 6 weeks or longer on screen, so it would be totally explainable and make sense. The only downside is they like to feature the younger set during the summer for the "kids" at home who might watch, so maybe have Janet, Jack and Liberty meet up with Carly mid-way through and just have Carly referred to for a couple days while Parker and Liberty are off getting into their own kind of wacky trouble. |

I think all of the alternatives suggested here for Carly's absence are MUCH better for the character as well as the show than the crap that TPTB are planning  And I agree 100% that everytime Carly goes off screen during Maura's maternity leaves, her character is assassinated and it takes longer each time to recover. Looking back at the other times she's been away for so long, her first exit from the show made sense. And who knew the SPA would be better than what's happened since? I was not a fan of the spa story but thought it played out OK, more in part because of the 3 actresses carrying the load AND the friendships that resulted once they all came home. |
