I still say Jack and Carly are the long arc. It is just turning out to be a longer arc than originally anticipated or planned. Why? Probably a few reasons.

1)Getting Linstrom
2)West's pregnancy
3)Getting McClain back
4)The fact that it is a given the show is on its last renewal. This is the last year of ATWT, and so they may as well drag out the reconciliation of their core couple, since it will stick this time.
I can understand getting Jon L and Maura's pregnancy being possible stumbling blocks to reuniting Carly and Jack, but it seems to me that getting Cady for what is supposed to be fairly short term, didn't have anything to do with a reunion, and if it truly is the last year for the show on CBS, you'd think tiic would want to at least go out with happy fans. :hmm

I don't think Cady had anything to do with the reunion either. I think she was brought in to help with story while Maura is out on leave since Maura is so popular on the show.

I do think Lindstrom joining the show affected it as I think they anticipated it being harder to get fans to accept new Craig because people were so upset over the loss of Scott so they figured pair him with Carly much as they did the whole Holden/Carly pairing to get sympathy for Lily earlier when there was the recast after Martha left.

I do think Maura getting pregnant may have effected it. It seems like the current story is being drawn out and moving much slower than other stories and I have a feeling that is to facilitate Maura's leave.

It's my understanding the show was given a one year renewal and told it would be the last IF they didn't get the ratings up. You would think they would be doing everything possible to increase those ratings and even the show has referred to CarJack as the "money couple" so you would think they would reunite them sooner rather than later. I can understand it not happening before Maura goes out on leave but I would expect them to start the reunion once she returns. They have to know they have turned off a lot of fans and you would think they would want to get some of those fans back.

if I were MP or MW I would start putting feelers out there where they have opportunities to move on. I see nothing or any indication of TPTB moving in a direction that will keep ATWT on the air a year from now. In a desperate attempt to ignite some sort of following or increase the ratings TPTB rode the JL's bandwagon as Craig. it has failed & continues to fail. It has also helped marginalize other characters in this "obsession". You can only ride the "money couple" as your last restort for so long. The irony is even if they do reunite J&C it may have be too late.
