2014 International Emmy Awards: 'El Señor de los Cielos' Wins First-Ever Emmy For Non-English Language U.S. Primetime Program

On Monday night, Telemundo's original telenovela El Señor de los Cielos won the first-ever Emmy award given in the category of Non-English Language U.S. Primetime Program at the 42nd edition of the International Emmy Awards held in New York City.

'El Señor de los Cielos' Season Finale Watched by 3.2M Viewers

The second season of Telemundo's highly rated super series El Señor de los Cielos ended on a season high, averaging 3,186,000 total viewers and 1,956,000 adults 18 to 49 in its finale night, according to Nielsen. Starring Rafael Amaya as Aurelio Casillas, the finale ranked as the #1 in Spanish language broadcast network program in its time slot, outperforming its closest competitor by 78% among adults 18 to 49. In addition, the original series outperformed its closest competitor during the last four weeks, among adults 18 to 49 garnering a 49% share of Spanish-language broadcast television. El Señor de los Cielos exemplifies Telemundo's innovative super series concept -- returning scripted drama series that are edgier, action packed and faster pace than traditional novelas.

'El Señor de los Cielos' Season 2 to Premiere May 26

Telemundo has announced the eagerly awaited premiere of the second season of El Señor de los Cielos, Monday, May 26 at 10 p.m. ET/PT. The hit series stars Rafael Amaya as the legendary Aurelio Casillas, with Ximena Herrera, Carmen Villalobos, Raúl Méndez, Fernanda Castillo, Sara Corrales, Lisa Owen and Robinson Díaz, with special appearances by Mauricio Ochmann and Marlene Favela.
In honor of the first production in Telemundo's history to feature a second season, the network presents a series of specials offering viewers a unique experience in preparation for the premiere. On Friday, May 23, fans will have the opportunity to discover where Aurelio Casillas has been hiding in El Señor de los Cielos: El Capítulo Secreto at 10 p.m. ET/PT. The following Monday, May 26, at 7 p.m. ET/PT, Noticias Telemundo will air En La Sombra del Narco, a one-hour special about the reach of Mexican and Colombian drug cartels into US territory followed by a special two-hour program recapping the first season of El Señor de los Cielos at 8 p.m. ET/PT before the second season premiere.

mun2, the leading Hispanic cable network for today’s young Latino audience, will premiere the record-breaking telenovela EL SEÑOR DE LOS CIELOS (Lord of the Skies) in Spanish with English subtitles starting Monday February 3 at 7 p.m. EST/. EL SEÑOR, which tells the story of Aurelio Casillas (Rafael Amaya), a leading Mexican drug lord presumed dead after undergoing a dramatic physical transformation, was one of the most successful series in the history of Telemundo. The series reached nearly 15 million total viewers during its 17-week run, consistently beating a number of networks, regardless of language. EL SEÑOR will air weekly with back to back episodes on Mondays from 7-9 p.m. EST/6-8pm CST, and Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays at 7 p.m. EST/6C.
