8th Annual Indie Series Awards Spotlight: Best Lead Actress — Comedy

The 8th Annual Indie Series Awards ceremony will be held on April 5 at The Colony Theatre. As the countdown to ISA8 continues (only 37 days left!), Serial Scoop and IndieSeriesAwards.com continue to spotlight nominees in all 29 categories. 8th Annual Indie Series Awards Spotlight: Best Guest Actress — Comedy

The 8th Annual Indie Series Awards ceremony is only 43 days away, and this year the always entertaining show moves to The Colony Theatre on April 5. Nominees in all 29 categories will be spotlighted here at Serial Scoop as well as at IndieSeriesAwards.com. Today we are featuring the six talented performers nominated in the Best Guest Actress — Comedy category. They include two former ISA winners (Jillian Clare & Liz Ellis), a two-time Oscar winner (Emma Thompson), a Tony nominee (Johanna Day), a rising actress and comedian (June Diane Raphael), and Broadway's latest sensation (Sas Goldberg).

Indie Series Awards Moving to The Colony Theatre


The Indie Series Awards ceremony has a new home! The 8th Annual ISAs will be held on April 5 in Burbank at The Colony Theatre, which has long been a vibrant center of Los Angeles theatre life.

The Indie Series Awards, honoring the best in independently produced, scripted entertainment created for the Web, first began in 2009.

“We are so excited to bring the Indie Series Awards to this extraordinary venue,” said Roger Newcomb, founder of the Indie Series Awards. “There's not a bad seat in the house, and the space offers us several new and fun possibilities for the ceremony, including the performances of the six Best Original Song nominees."

Barbara Beckley Artistic Director of The Colony Theatre stated, “It is an honor to be hosting this important and prestigious awards show recognizing the best and brightest in New Media. Director of Development, Heather Provost, added, "It's exactly the kind of fresh and innovative event we want to see in our theatre."

On February 1, a total of 48 series from around the world were nominated for Indie Series Awards in 29 categories.

Tickets for "ISA8" are currently on sale through Eventbrite.

'The Bay' Shatters Indie Series Awards Record with 21 Nominations


The nominations for the 8th Annual Indie Series Awards were revealed on Wednesday, February 1. The ISAs celebrate the best in independently produced scripted entertainment created for the Web. Nominations were announced in 29 categories.

The Bay led all series with 21 total nominations. The show will compete in the Best Web Series - Drama category with Best Thing You'll Ever Do, Lemmings, Muck, Out With Dad, People Like Us, Rumuvi and Undetectable.

The Amazing Gayl Pile led all comedies with 16 nominations. The series is joined in the Best Web Series - Comedy field by #Adulting, Break: The Musical, Fame Dogs, Grip and Electric, High Road, Keith Broke His Leg and The Pioneers.

The Bay and The Amazing Gayl Pile each broke the previous record of 13 total nominations.

In all, there are 48 nominated series from around the globe: United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Singapore, New Zealand, Australia and Argentina. Crystal trophies will be presented to the winners during a gala ceremony on April 5 in Los Angeles. The two-day celebration includes a launch party, red carpet reception, press walk, presentation ceremony and official after party.

Since 2009, the Indie Series Award has honored the most creative and progressive talent in independent web series.

The Annual Indie Series Awards is an initiative to elevate the entire indie series genre, organized by the nonprofit Indie Series Network, with Serial Scoop as media partner once again.

Indie Series Awards Expanding Best Comedy & Drama Categories to 8

Indie Series Awards nominees will be announced on Wednesday, February 1.
Big changes are coming to the Indie Series Awards, and one was announced today. The ISAs are expanding the number of nominees in the Best Web Series — Comedy and Best Web Series — Drama categories from six to eight.

The expansion will allow four additional series to be introduced to the audience during the ceremony, a special honor given to the nominees of the evening's final two awards.

More big changes for this year's ISAs are in the works, and will be announced in the coming days.

The nominations will be revealed Wednesday, February 1st, and several daytime favorites are expected to be recognized. The exact time of the announcement will be posted at IndieSeriesAwards.com on Monday.

Chad Duell Joins the Cast of 'The Bay' as Adam Kenway

Emmy Winner Chad Duell, who currently stars as Michael Corinthos on General Hospital, has joined the cast of The Bay as Adam Kenway.

The character is described as a "mysterious young man who comes to comes to Bay City with an agenda and wreaks havoc in the lives of Pete Garrett (Kristos Andrews) and Sara Garrett (Mary Beth Evans).

'Serial Scoop Now': 'Pride: The Series' Season 2 Premiere (Part 2)

The second season of Pride: The Series debuts later this month.
On the latest episode of Serial Scoop Now (2.13), host Roger Newcomb attends the Pride: The Series Season 2 premiere event and speaks with one of the shows executive producers, Ashley Mitchell, who stars as Trina. We also chat with Aaron Mathias (Garrett), Scott Michael Salame (Owen), director Michael V. Pomarico, Adam Andrew Rios (Sheeneda/Adam), Braden Bradley (Travis), Tony D. Head (George) and Geri Reischl, who played Jan Brady in The Brady Bunch Variety Hour.

"It was definitely a different experience, and it was a lot of work, but I really enjoyed it," says Ashley Mitchell, who was executive producer on a project for the first time.

Six-time Emmy winning former All My Children director Michael V. Pomarico appreciated the freedom of being outside the studio.

"Coming from a structured show like that [All My Children] to have the freedom with this show was really, really wonderful," he tells us.

'Serial Scoop Now': 'Pride: The Series' Season 2 Premiere (Part 1)

The second season of Pride: The Series debuts later this month.
On the latest episode of Serial Scoop Now (2.12), host Roger Newcomb attends the Pride: The Series Season 2 premiere event and speaks with creator Dorell Anthony (who plays Kai) about the creation of the series, and what's ahead in the new season. We also chat with cast members Ilene Kristen (Eleanor), Lauren B. Martin (Tia), Jonathan Villanueva (Luis) and Terissa Kelton (Riley), who also serves as a producer on the series.

"I really wanted to create a show that gave back to people," reveals Dorell Anthony, "and give them a chance to express who they really are."

The iconic Ilene Kristen appreciates the creative side of working on independent productions.

"It's interesting to see people unleashing their creativity," she says.

Kristen also remembered legendary writer Claire Labine, who passed away earlier this year, and wrote years of memorable scripts for Kristen's Ryan's Hope character, Delia.

"Claire was the best writer that I've ever worked with," she explains. "When you got her scripts, you never wanted to change a line of them."

'Serial Scoop Now': Jack Tracy Finds Creative Outlet with 'History' Web Series

On the latest episode of Serial Scoop Now (2.11), host Roger Newcomb chats with producer/director/writer/actor/attorney Jack Tracy about History, a new LGBTQIA scripted web series from Necessary Outlet Productions that explores the relationships, friendships and the sexual and gender politics of young gay men in New York City.

History follows Jamie (Tracy), a thirty-something gay New York lawyer, in the days after a messy breakup with his partner of five years, Jared (Andrew Lipson). Through juxtaposed flashbacks, the audience watches Jamie’s evolution—or lack thereof—on issues of intimacy, sex, gender role conformity and friendships as he rebuilds his life on his own terms.

In our interview, Tracy recounts his journey to New York, and from lawyer by day to indie creator by night, and shares how he brought his real life experiences to History. Find out more about this quickly rising young talent below.

'Serial Scoop Now': Ade Otukoya Talks 'A Taste of Honey' and Previews 'We Be Nurses'

On the latest episode of Serial Scoop Now (2.10), host Roger Newcomb chats with actor Ade Otukoya about his role as a Navy man named Jimmy in the Austin Pendleton directed "A Taste of Honey," currently playing at the Pearl Theatre in New York.

Otukoya then offers a preview of his character, George, in the upcoming 74Aderemi Productions television pilot We Be Nurses. He also shares the sage piece of advice he received from Phylicia Rashad.

'Serial Scoop Now': Kurt Bantilan Previews Upcoming Roles in 'Dog Sees God' and 'We Be Nurses'

On the latest episode of Serial Scoop Now (2.9), host Roger Newcomb chats with actor Kurt Bantilan about his upcoming role in the Heights Players production of Bert V. Royal's award-winning play "Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead," opening in Brooklyn on September 9.

Bantilan also offers a preview of his character in the upcoming 74Aderemi Productions television pilot We Be Nurses. He portrays a transgender woman named Jessica in the series about a group of eight nursing students who come into their own as they become friends.

Finally, Bantilan offers insights into his popular Cooking with Kurt web series, which airs on YouTube.

Help Hilarious Web Series #Adulting Hit Its Stretch Goal!

Hunting Season star Ben Baur, along with his co creator Thandi Tolmay have created a hilarious new web series called #Adulting

The series follows two best friends Max (Baur) and Faye (Tolmay) as they navigate life and love, all while staring down the barrel of ‘30’. Cheating boyfriends, rapidly slowing metabolisms and empty bank accounts are only the beginning. Episode 1 was warmly received and in response to the demand for more episodes Co Creators Baur and Tolmay started a crowd funding campaign so that they can complete Season 1 and get it to the fans.

'Ladies of the Lake' Teaser Poster Released!

I really didn't need my morning coffee after all this morning. The first official poster has been been released for Ladies of the Lake, and I am all in my feels!

Ladies of the Lake tells the story of four wealthy wives living in the exclusive gated community of Avalon. When their abusive husbands begin to turn up dead, Detective Shawn Daniels ( Kyle Lowder) launches an investigation, only to discover the many secrets hidden beneath the glossy veneers of Avalon. The script was penned by Caruso, adapted from a novel written by Ken Corday and is being produced through Michael & Barbara Caruso Productions.

Portraying the four mysterious ladies are Emmy nominee Martha Madison, in the role of Vivian Montgomery, an intellectual business woman who gave up her career to support her husband, Emmy winner Lilly Melgar as Angelica Louis, the quintessential Hollywood Wife with a tragic past, Marie Wilson as Morgan Firestone, a former pageant queen who became the face of her husband's shipping empire and Jessica Morris who portrays Crystal Amhurst, a barren trophy wife who will do anything to keep her husbands attention.

Ladies of the Lake will debut late summer.

'Acting Dead' Available to Binge-Watch For Free

After racking up numerous festival accolades and awards, the biting zombie comedy Acting Dead, finally released it's entire first season online at www.actingdead.com for your bloody binge-watching enjoyment.

Acting Dead tells the story of Tate Blodgett (Brian Beacock), a down on his luck, unemployed actor, who after being turned down for role after role, decides to take his career into his own hands, and becomes a Zombie, simply so he can finally get work in the many Zombie movies and television shows. Along the way, he meets Alex Carboneux (Jillian Clare), a former child star, who's temper has stalled her career, until she also decides to take matters in her own hands, which doesn't turn out so well either.
